Instant Replay

“SAFE”. This used to be what we heard on a baseball field. The final decision of a play and it could not be overturned by anyone. Not even the other umpires could change the call. It was all based on the decision of a human and the calls they made weather they were good or bad. The thing is human flaws come into play and I believe that its part of the game. In the past 2 seasons of the MLB they have turned to instant replay to help make some decisions. And I believe the modern technology has affected baseball in a negative way.
One reason why technology has affected baseball is that it takes away human flaw. If you add instant replay it takes one of the glitches that are important to the game out. When an umpire makes a call he is trusting on what he saw. This is part of the game and instant replay takes that away. In one instance there was a play at Wrigley field where the right fielder should have caught a ball and a fan reached out and interfered with it. They did not over turn it but it was again a call that should have rested in the umpires hands not a video tape. In another case Andre Galaraga had a perfect game going into the 9th inning with 2 outs. There was a ground ball to second base and it should have been the last out but the umpire called him safe. But this is the umpires decision and it needs to stay that way because that is one of baseballs defects that was drawn in when the game was made.
There are many pros and cons to the use of instant replay. They make the game more efficient on the calls but in turn take out the flaw that made the game. Now that instant replay is being implemented the game is getting more technical and you see things happening that have never been done before. If there is instant replay on minimum things now then I believe in the future we will se it implemented in the entire game. This is what I believe will kill baseball and the emotions that go with it.

If i were to become a book, the last copy of that book in fact, I would choose to be Island of the Blue Dolphins  by Scott O'Dell. The book is about an tribal girl from an island off the coast of California. Her and her brother get stranded on the island when there tribe leaves with the white men. When the girls brother dies she is left to fend for herself. She endures many challenges including making weapons to defend her self. This is a problem because women in her tribe are forbidden to construct weapons. She also faces a pack of wild dogs that is trying to kill her to have a fresh meal. She wounds the pack leader and nurses him back to health and the dog and her become companions.

The reason I would choose to be this book is because the book shows a person with confidence, drive, will, compassion and love. She shows strength, courage and stability. The reason for being this book is because all of these traits are what I want for myself. Being all of these things would help me achieve my goals and help me accomplish my most challenging goal.

Another reason I would Choose to be this book is because the setting that it contains. I was born in CCalifornia and the island where this takes place is just up the coast from where i lived. Plus i have always been intrigued by being stranded on an island to fend for myself. I think i would get and amazing thrill from living off the land and trying to survive on what nature has provided for us. And lastly i am just a beach bum. Anything that requires a beach i am there.

So in the end being Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell would be amazing because it is all my hopes dreams and aspirations in the confines of the pages in the book.

There has been arguments on weather or not that reasoning skills should be taught in primary schools. Reasoning skills are the ability to improve memory and comprehension. Teaching this in primary or elementary schools is a challenging accomplishment. But I do think that it can be done. The kids are to young and there brains are still growing so the more that they can try to learn especially at a young age will greatly improve there skills.
       I read an a review by Eric Jabal on Nelson Thornes book Teaching Kids to Learn and Teaching Kids How to think. Both of these books talk about how kids need to learn for themselves and think for themselves at a young age. Jabal says “These second editions read excellently as companion texts and are both valuable additions to the bookshelves of researchers” (Jabal) The one quote by Thornes that really stuck out to me was “the thinking child is a learning child”http://www.edrev.info/reviews/rev515.htm.
       The second reason that I think that children should be learning reasoning skills is so that they can start preparing themselves for the life's they are meant to lead. The world is becoming a more harsh place and every year its becoming harder and harder to find a job. They need to start realizing at a younger age that college is the way to go. Reasoning skills will greatly improve there comprehension and understanding of the necessity for today’s society. Today more and more jobs are requiring a college degree of some sort. Soon enough the greater majority of jobs will require one. For this reason I believe that we should start teaching our kids the reasoning skills they need ass soon as we can. The more they comprehend they better of they will be.
       The children of today are our future leaders of tomorrow. The more they know the greater things they will accomplish and they can better the world with the knowledge and understanding that they have obtained by just learning reasoning skills at a younger age. If this happens it will greater benefit all of us.
